Hustle Culture vs. Human Design Strategies

It is no surprise that we live in a culture that values overwork, material successes, and quick decisions. It is also no surprise that many of our communities experience mental health problems, ranging from major life affecting episodes, to minor bouts of anxiety and depression. It is said that anxiety comes from living in the future and depression comes from living in the past, and all of these symptoms come from living mostly inside your own head.

Contrary to this popular belief that all problems m
ust be solved through thinking (or overthinking!), Human Design proposes a way to solve problems using other parts of our being. This involves using our Human Design type to follow a strategy that works for our energetic blueprint. By following this, individuals are better able to find the answers they seek and life seems to operate with more flow and ease.

There are five design energy types including Generator, Manifestor, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector. A brief description of each including their strategies are listed here:

Generator

  • Purpose: Builders and creators with sustainable energy.
  • Aura: Open and enveloping, drawing opportunities toward them.
  • Strategy: Respond to life (not initiate) by tuning into their gut response.
  • Key Trait: Generators thrive when they are doing work they love, generating energy for themselves and others.
  • Challenge: Frustration arises when they force things or say yes to the wrong opportunities.

Manifestor

  • Purpose: Initiators of action and catalysts for change.
  • Aura: Closed and repelling, designed to protect their independence.
  • Strategy: Inform others before taking action to reduce resistance.
  • Key Trait: Manifestors are here to start things and inspire others but not necessarily to see projects through.
  • Challenge: They may face resistance or misunderstanding due to their powerful energy.

Manifesting Generator

  • Purpose: A hybrid type, combining the Manifestor's initiating energy and the Generator's sustaining energy.
  • Aura: Open and enveloping.
  • Strategy: Respond first, then inform others before initiating.
  • Key Trait: They are multitaskers who work quickly and efficiently, thriving on variety.
  • Challenge: They may skip steps or burn out if they don't honor their response process.

Projector

  • Purpose: Guides and directors of energy, offering wisdom and insight.
  • Aura: Focused and absorbing, deeply penetrating others' energy.
  • Strategy: Wait for recognition and invitation before sharing their gifts.
  • Key Trait: Projectors excel in managing and guiding others' energy but don't have consistent energy themselves.
  • Challenge: They may experience burnout if they try to keep up with more energetic types.

Reflector

  • Purpose: Mirrors of society, providing reflection and perspective.
  • Aura: Sampling and resistant, taking in and reflecting the environment.
  • Strategy: Wait for a full lunar cycle (28 days) to make major decisions.
  • Key Trait: Reflectors are highly attuned to their environment and thrive in harmonious settings.
  • Challenge: They may struggle with consistency and a sense of identity.

While it can be challenging to create new habits that align with your Human Design, it can help you see the world a different way and take some pressure off of yourself to always come up with the perfect answer to every problem. I suggest doing more research into your own design type and trying the strategies for 30 days to see how you feel and how much space it can create to allow you to live your most inspired life!
